In Liverpool in 1960. At Oxford Street maternity hospital in the town centre. A close friend of my mother's gave birth to a baby son three days earlier and I was placed in the crib beside him not long after being born. So David became my very first friend. We still spend days cycling together, mostly along canals and rivers.
In Childwall, Liverpool with my younger brother, Howard, and sister, Helen. My parents ran a deli locally called Quickfreeze. Left home in 1979 to go to university.
Jewish schools in Liverpool from nursery to age 18. Memorable educational moments include learning how to make lemon meringue pie for Domestic Science O' Level and being one of a class of two with one of my closest friends for Latin A' Level. Read history at Sidney Sussex college, Cambridge and then PGCE in Drama at Goldsmith's college, London.
